Orthodontics for Teens
We can help your child or teen achieve a straighter smile and work towards better oral health at our Burnaby, BC location. They may be able to choose from orthodontic options such as coloured or lingual braces, or clear aligners.
What should I expect in Phase II Treatment?
In Phase II, we apply full braces to a patient's upper and lower teeth. This phase will begin following the eruption of all permanent teeth and happens for most patients between the ages of 11 and 13.
Phase II treatment helps correct ongoing tooth and bite-related issues and to finish aligning the teeth and bite. Early Phase I correction paves the way for a successful second phase. Now, we'll ensure each tooth has a precise location in the mouth.
Our objective is to make sure your teen's teeth are situated where they should be in relation to other teeth, cheeks, tongue and lips.
Though it may take anywhere from 9 months to 5 years to complete orthodontic treatment, most patients take between 12 and 24 months.
How long will my teen need to wear braces?
Though it may take anywhere from 9 months to 5 years to complete orthodontic treatment, patients usually take between 12 and 24 months. Your teen can help ensure their treatment time does not have to be extended by practicing excellent oral hygiene and taking great care of their braces and orthodontic appliances.
What are treatment options for teens?
Teens (and their parents) who are about to undergo orthodontic treatment often wonder which options they'll have. Here are a few:
Clear Braces - An inconspicuous alternative to metal braces, clear braces are a discreet way to help straighten your teen's teeth. They are typically made of ceramic material.
Traditional Metal Braces - Traditional metal braces have been used for decades as a reliable way to straighten teeth for children and teens.
Clear Aligners - Some patients will be candidates for custom-made, removable clear aligners that can help to straighten teeth discreetly. We offer both Invisalign and SureSmile Aligners.
